KOSHA RAVANI
Rutgers Health Service Corps (RHSC) prepares students, faculty, staff, and community members to positively impact the health and wellness of individuals across Rutgers and New Jersey through education, innovation, and service. Our vision is to be a national model, inspiring the next generation of healthcare and public health heroes to improve the health and equity of our communities.
Participants completing this training will learn foundational information about the work of public health and the community organizations that perform that work and deliver services, how to engage with community members with cultural humility, the impacts of social determinants of health, and ways to communicate effectively with those they serve. In order to volunteer for the RHSC, accepted applicants must complete this foundational training.
By the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the background and formation of the RHSCorps
2. State RHSC vision, mission, and objectives
3. Summarize the benefits of interdisciplinary professional collaboration in service activities.
4. Recognize ethical concerns when engaging with community members
5. Explain the purpose of HIPAA 6. Implement simple steps to assure patient/client privacy, including data privacy.
7. Define public health
8. Describe the roles of local health departments and other public health organizations in New Jersey
9. Define the different types of health insurance available in New Jersey
10. Provide examples of the impact of social determinants on the health of individuals and communities.
11. Describe health outcome disparities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
