Landscape Plants: Identification, Selection, and Application

Ron-nie Derick Marquez

Earning this credential, participants went through a rigorous and enriching experience that significantly enhanced their knowledge and skills in landscape plant identification and selection. Over the course of eleven consecutive weekly sessions, they delved into comprehensive classroom lectures, engaged in hands-on plant identification walks, and utilized a range of online instructional tools, all under the expert guidance of instructor Steven Kristoph. Each week consists of 3.5 hour class sessions for 11 weeks, totaling 38.5 hours of class time. Through this immersive program, they mastered two vital skills essential for any plant lover or manager: the ability to identify approximately 150 landscape plants and the expertise to select the right plant for the right site and purpose. They became adept at recognizing a variety of landscape plants, including shade trees, ornamental small trees, conifers, needle evergreens, broadleaf evergreens, rhododendrons and their kin, flowering shrubs, groundcover options, and rariflora. In addition to plant identification, participants learned the Latin names of these plants, a crucial skill for precise identification in nursery and commercial settings. They also gained insights into the best growing conditions for each plant within any given landscape. This course offers a perfect blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, making it an ideal choice for both landscaping professionals and plant enthusiasts.
