Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia: An Introduction and Practice Guide

Tziporah Zwickler

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is the gold standard treatment for insomnia, and works better than medication, and has been shown to work well for patients of all kinds. However, very few people are trained in this approach. In this seminar, we will learn how to assess for sleep disorders, learn about the theory and mechanisms of CBT-I, with an overview of how to apply this intervention for various population groups. This is a one hour overview of the CBT-I intervention.

This workshop is designed to:

  1. Describe sleep drives, sleep disorders, and behavioral sleep interventions.

  2. Assess for sleep disorders.

  3. Treat insomnia using cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I).

  4. Incorporate consideration of sleep treatment into your daily psychotherapeutic practice.
