General Industry Safety and Health Specialist Certificate

The Center for Public Health Workforce Development General Industry Safety and Health Specialist Certificate focuses on OSHA policies, procedures and standards, as well as safety and health principles. Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are the most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. To complete the Certificate Program, students must attend all five required courses, and four of the elective courses (two from each series of electives). Earning Criteria - Required course 1: OSHA 511: Occupational Safety and Health for General Industry (4 days) - Required course 2: OSHA 521: OSHA Guide to Industrial Hygiene (4 days) - Required course 3: OSHA 2225: Respiratory Protection (4 days) - Required course 4: OSHA 7500: Introduction to Safety and Health Management (1 day) - Required course 5: OSHA 7100: Machine Guarding (1 day) - To complete the Certificate Program, students must CHOOSE TWO OF THESE THREE ELECTIVES: • OSHA 2255: Principles of Ergonomics Applied to Work-Related Musculoskeletal and Nerve Disorders (3 days) • OSHA 2264: Permit-Required Confined Spaces (3 days) • OSHA 3095: Electrical Safety (4 days) - To complete the Certificate Program, students must CHOOSE TWO OF THESE THREE ELECTIVES: • OSHA 7505: Introduction to Incident Investigation (1 day) • OSHA 7845: Recordkeeping (1 day) • OSHA 7125: Combustible Dust (1 day)
