Rutgers Law School's Certificate in Cannabis Law and Business is a six-month program for entrepreneurs and license holders. It provides participants with in-depth knowledge of key issues relating to the rules and regulations of New Jersey's legal cannabis industry as well as relevant federal laws so that they can run a fully compliant cannabis business. Over the course of 84 hours of live instruction, participants will complete six modules, as follows: 1. Fundamentals of cannabis regulation in New Jersey 2. Regulatory compliance 3. Cannabis business operations 4. Locations and local government 5. Electives for cultivators and retailers 6. Capstone To earn the certificate, participants must attend a minimum of 78 hours of instruction, and must successfully complete an instructor-reviewed capstone project.
By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Describe New Jersey's cannabis business licensing structure and the different types of business that can operate in the state
- Implement standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with New Jersey's regulatory requirements
- Describe key business operations that need to be guided by state and federal laws
- Locate reputable sources of information to assist with ensuring business operations are legal and compliant
- Build communication networks with local governments, community members, and business peers
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills that acquired through completion of a capstone project
